METHOD MACHINE, Rochester’s premiere performance and art company, will stage both parts of Angels In America by Tony Kushenr in 2012 on the Nextstage at Geva Theater Center. Angels in America, Part 1: Millennium Approaches will be presented in March and Angels in America, Part 2: Perestroika will be presented in the Fall. Also, in the Fall, Parts 1 & 2 will be presented on one day—a 7-hour theatrical marathon with a dinner break!

Angels in America is set in late 1985 and early 1986, as the first wave of the AIDS epidemic in America is escalating and Ronald Reagan has been elected to a second term in the White House. This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play tells the story of a young gay man with AIDS and his frightened, unfaithful lover; a closeted Mormon lawyer and his valium-addicted wife; the infamous New York lawyer Roy Cohn; and a steel-winged, prophecy-bearing angel; as well as the ghost of Ethel Rosenberg, among many others. The lives of these disparate characters intersect, intertwine, collide and are blown apart during a time of heartbreak, reaction and transformation. Ranging from earth to heaven, from the political to the intimate to the visionary and supernatural, Angels in America is an epic exploration of love, justice, identity and theology, of the difficulty, terror and necessity of change.

“We are so excited to be presenting Angels in America,” says Artistic Director David Henderson. “Kushner’s play is the ultimate in modern theater. Great characters, wicked special effects and a message that is vital.” Henderson teams up with company founder Marcy J. Savastano (Harper) and usual suspects Jill Rittinger (the Angel), Judy Molner (Hannah) and Peter Doyle as Roy Cohn. The company will also collaborate with acclaimed international video artist Monica Duncan to create the special effects and video for the production. “Performing at Geva will give us the best environment to attempt some very difficult effects most companies our size would shy away from,” says Henderson. “But we’re not shy.”

METHOD MACHINE, Rochester’s premiere performance and art company, presents their new production of Tennessee William’s play SOMETHING CLOUDY SOMETHING CLEAR. Set on the dunes of Provincetown, the play is seen as the prolific writes most autobiographical work.

A powerful glimpse into autobiography in the form of a memory play, the main story involves a summer in 1940 Provincetown. It’s the account of a doomed triangle between August, a young playwright, and two beautiful young dancers, Kip and his friend Clare, as he rewrites the play that may bring him his first Broadway production. What’s cloudy and clear isn’t merely the sultry summer by the shore, but the artist’s vision and memory itself. This late play by Williams is a masterwork: full of doubled visions, stylistically daring, leaping in time between 1940 and 1980, peopled with ghosts, including an appearance by Tallulah Bankhead.

The production will be directed by Artistic Director David Henderson and feature Associate Artistic Director Marcy J. Savastano. “We have talking about this show for a few years now,” notes Henderson. “Tennessee William’s Centennial Birthday year is the perfect opportunity to share this rare gem.” METHOD MACHINE usual suspects Jamal Abdunnasir, Peter Doyle and Jill Rittenger are also featured in the production.

NEIGHBORHOOD 3: Requisition of Doom

By Jennifer Haley

Directed by David Henderson

In a suburban subdivision with identical houses, parents find their teenagers addicted to an online horror video game. The game setting? A subdivision with identical houses. The goal? Smash through an army of zombies to escape the neighborhood for good. But as the line blurs between virtual and reality, both parents and players realize that fear has a life of its own.

THE LEIUTENANT OF INISHMORE

By Martin McDonagh

Directed by David Henderson
with Marcy J. Savastano & Michael Francis O’Connor

As part of an I.R.A. splinter group, Padraic thinks nothing of murdering and mutilating his enemies—but the sudden death of his beloved cat leaves him heartbroken. Amidst the comedy and carnage, McDonagh delivers cutting commentary on the endless cycle of violence that engulfs our world. The Lieutenant of Inishmore employs explosive dialogue and a perfectly oiled plot that is brutal, bloody, yet irresistibly funny. GALLONS of blood.

SOMETHING CLOUDY, SOMETHING CLEAR

By Tennessee Williams

Directed by David Henderson

A young playwright, August is broke and struggling to rewrite his new Broadway play on the dunes of Cape Cod when he is interrupted by Kip, the dancer he quickly falls in love with. Other visitors like Tallulah Bankhead and a randy merchant marine dot the sandy landscape as the past is re-imagined and the present is captured with heart-breaking desperation. SOMETHING CLOUDY, SOMETHING CLEAR is Tennessee’s most autobiographical work and recalls the summer before his breakout hit, The Glass Menagerie.

METHOD MACHINE, Rochester’s premiere performance and art company, remounts the popular new play by Michael Steck (aka Pandora Boxx). Co-starring Kasha Davis, THE LIPSTICK MASSACRE is directed by David Henderson and features Marcy J. Savastano, Michael Francis O’Connor and Jamal Abdunnasir (“a comic bonanza,” CITY Newspaper). Performances begin May 27th and run through June 12th in the Nextstage at Geva Theatre Center as part of SpringFest 2010. Tickets are $20 and can be obtained through the Geva Theatre Center box office.

THE LIPSTICK MASSACRE is a new murder mystery play from the twisted mind of Rochester’s Michael Steck. Pandora Boxx stars as Daphne Von Hausenpfeffer, the current ‘it’ girl of local TV commercials, who quickly becomes the center of a murder investigation when her competitors begin to get picked off one by one. The bumbling detective is on the case but he’ll need the help of his erstwhile protégé and the town’s leading talent agent, Cooki McDoogle. They work the town of Flushing Hollow and its wacky residents to try and stop the rising body count. Take a sprinkle of greed, a dash of boozy cougars, a pinch of sexual exploits and a nun, shake it all up and you have all the ingredients you’ll need to crack the case of THE LIPSTICK MASSACRE!

METHOD MACHINE’S production of THE LIPSTICK MASSACRE comes hot off the wheels of Pandora’s stint on RuPauls’s Drag Race. Widely touted as the ‘funny queen,’ Pandora wowed the judges with her witty banter and creative solutions for the show’s campy challenges. Her Carol Channing was an instant viral video and RuPaul called her the Susan Lucci of the competition. “Pandora is the funniest person I know,” says Artistic Director David Henderson. “And so is Michael. We are ecstatic to be working with Geva to bring what Entertainment Weekly calls, ‘a master of comedy’ to this venue.” THE LIPSTICK MASSACRE premiered in November at MuCCC to sold out audiences and rave reviews.

METHOD MACHINE is an artistic playground committed to producing and presenting daring, relevant and illuminating experiments in performance and art. Founded in 2007, METHOD MACHINE has presented such hits as Closer, Edge and The Lipstick Massacre as well as provocative art exhibits like “A Tibetan Pilgrimage” and “Bushwacked!” THE LIPSTICK MASSACRE exemplifies METHOD MACHINE’S desire to develop and foster new plays and playwrights.

**METHOD MACHINE announces a change in the Season 2010 Line-up: Jennifer Haley’s NEIGHBORHOOD 3: Requisition of Doom will kick off the season with a thriller. Check out our TICKETS pages for more information!!!

METHOD MACHINE SEASON 2010 is an exploration of rare classic American theater and a foray into Irish modern comedy…and gore. Eugene O’Neill’s IN THE ZONE, set in WWI, is all too relevant to our standing war in Iraq. THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE, from the twisted mind of Martin McDonogh, takes us to Ireland from some bloody good times. In celebration of Tennessee William’s 100 birthday, we will close the season with SOMETHING CLOUDY, SOMETHING CLEAR, a frank biographical play of youthful love, set on the dunes of Cape Cod. Join us at MuCCC for all three shows!

NEIGHBORHOOD 3: Requisition of Doom

By Jennifer Haley

Feb 17 to Mar 6 2011

In a suburban subdivision with identical houses, parents find their teenagers addicted to an online horror video game. The game setting? A subdivision with identical houses. The goal? Smash through an army of zombies to escape the neighborhood for good. But as the line blurs between virtual and reality, both parents and players realize that fear has a life of its own.

THE LEIUTENANT OF INISHMORE

By Martin McDonagh (pictured)

May 5 to May 22 2011

SOMETHING CLOUDY, SOMETHING CLEAR
By Tennessee Williams (pictured)
Directed by David Henderson

A young playwright, August is broke and struggling to rewrite his new Broadway play on the dunes of Cape Cod when he is interrupted by Kip, the dancer he quickly falls in love with. Other visitors like Tallulah Bankhead and a randy merchant marine dot the sandy landscape as the past is re-imagined and the present is captured with heart-breaking desperation. SOMETHING CLOUDY, SOMETHING CLEAR is Tennessee’s most autobiographical work and recalls the summer before his breakout hit, The Glass Menagerie.
